KOMPAS.TV - Saat tim Pusat Studi Sistem Kelautan melakukan penelitian, sebanyak 2.110 paus sikat terlihat di pesisir Puerto Madryn, Provinsi Chubut, dan wilayah Patagonia, Argentina.
Pusat Studi Sistem Kelautan atau Cesimar-Conicet berhasil mencatat 2.110 individu paus sikat sepanjang garis pantai sejauh 620 kilometer di Puerto Madryn dan Patagonia, Argentina.
Sekumpulan paus sikat terlihat berenang ke permukaan, berpasangan dan berkelompok, bahkan mendekati perahu nelayan dan wisatawan.
Jumlah 2.110 paus sikat ini merupakan rekor bersejarah, melebihi jumlah maksimum yang pernah tercatat pada tahun 2018, yaitu sebanyak 1.600 paus.
Para peneliti mencatat bahwa proses rekolonisasi paus sikat kini meluas ke wilayah lain di pesisir Argentina, dan pencapaian ini disambut dengan antusias oleh warga Argentina.
Upaya konservasi hewan laut yang dimulai dari pesisir Puerto Madryn telah menjadikan wilayah ini sebagai salah satu destinasi wisata pengamatan paus terkemuka di dunia.
Paus sikat dan jenis paus lainnya akan terus terlihat hingga Desember nanti. Wisata pengamatan paus ini memberikan dampak positif bagi pariwisata, perekonomian regional, dan penelitian ilmiah.
