Introducing the Porsche Mission S!
It’s an all-new flagship that follows on from the Porsche 918 Spyder, and it’s designed to take the fight to the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini!
It’s been 13 years since the 918 Spyder was revealed, so is the all-new Mission S a suitable successor? Let’s take a closer look, starting with the design…
From the outside, the Mission S looks like a compilation of Porsche’s greatest hits! The headlights are giving classic 911, the super low front end reminds us of GT1 racing cars from the 90s, and the vertical panel behind the front wheel arches easily harks back to the Carrera GT! Elsewhere, there’s a huge scoop positioned at the centre of the roof to help smooth airflow, but the most notable feature of the Mission S’s exterior is a massive fan sticking out of the rear bodywork! It’s a retro-inspired cooling solution that’s been lifted from 1970s racing cars, such as the Porsche 917. Finally, low down you’ll find a massive diffuser, flanked by a set of quad-tailpipes - nice!
The retro-inspiration continues on the inside of the Mission S - starting with the fact there’s NO infotainment screen! However, there is a mount for your phone, so Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are only a touch away. What’s more, the fact that there’s no infotainment screen means you’re treated to physical controls for the heating and ventilation! Porsche has also done away with a massive slab of screen for the dial display, and instead included no less than 5 dials for the driver. The central rev counter, while having a screen behind it, still comes with an analogue needle - and it looks great!
As for the engine and performance stats? Well, we don’t have any as of yet. But there’s one thing we know for certain - the Mission S WILL be petrol-powered, and Porsche has confirmed the platform will accept ICE, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains! So when you consider that a 600hp dual-motor set-up is due for the upcoming all-electric Boxster, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that one of those motors could be added to the Mission S along with the 911 Turbo’s twin-turbo flat 6 to produce more than 1000hp! But of course, we’re just speculating for now…
When it comes to the price… Well, we don’t have that either. But for an all-new flagship Porsche, it’s fair to assume you won’t be getting much (if any!) change from £300,000! But do you think Porsche needs the Mission S when the 911 is such an incredible all-rounder? Let us know in the comments! Receive SMS online on sms24.me
