Indonesia kehilangan seorang legenda bulu tangkis. Tan Joe Hok meninggal dunia, Senin pukul 10.52 WIB di Rumah Sakit Medistra, Jakarta, dalam usia 87 tahun.Persatuan Bulutangkis Seluruh Indonesia dalam pernyataan resminya mengatakan, Indonesia kehilangan sosok besar dalam dunia bulutangkis. PBSI menyampaikan rasa duka yang mendalam serta doa terbaik bagi almarhum dan keluarganya.
Tan Joe Hok dikenal sebagai atlet yang sarat prestasi selama masa kariernya. Ia telah mempersembahkan berbagai gelar bergengsi untuk Indonesia dan menjadi salah satu tokoh penting dalam membangun fondasi kejayaan bulutangkis nasional.
Ia tercatat sebagai atlet Indonesia pertama yang meraih gelar juara di turnamen bergengsi All England. Bersama rekan-rekannya, Tan juga turut mengantarkan Indonesia menjuarai Piala Thomas untuk pertama kalinya pada tahun 1958.
Prestasi lainnya yang turut mengharumkan nama bangsa antara lain kemenangan di Piala Thomas pada tahun 1958, 1961, dan 1964, juara All England tahun 1959, serta menjadi peraih medali emas pertama bagi Indonesia di ajang Asian Games 1962.
