Heppenheim: Ein tödlicher Verkehrsunfall ereignete sich am Sonntagmorgen gegen 08.40 Uhr auf der B3 bei Heppenheim. Nach Angaben der Polizei fuhr der 63-Jährige Fahrer eines Alfa Romeo von Heppenheim in Richtung Bensheim. Aus bisher unbekannten Gründen kam der Fahrer nach links von der Fahrbahn ab und prallte frontal gegen einen Baum. Ersthelfer befreiten den Autofahrer aus dem Fahrzeug, doch für den Mann kam jede Hilfe zu spät – er verstarb noch an der Unfallstelle. Die Feuerwehr konnte einen beginnenden Brand im Motorbereich schnell löschen. Neben Feuerwehr, Rettungsdienst und Polizei, war auch Rettungshubschrauber Christoph 53 aus Mannheim im Einsatz. Die B3 musste in beide Richtungen für etwa 2 Stunden gesperrt werden. Warum der Fahrer mit seinem Fahrzeug verunglückte ist Gegenstand weiterer polizeilicher Ermittlungen.
