'20 Iranian Crew Rescued': India Navy Overpowers Somali Pirates In Horn Raid | Firstpost Africa

Watch as Firstpost covers a thrilling high-seas operation conducted by the Indian Navy, bringing a tense 48-hour pirate drama to a decisive end off the northeastern coast of Somalia. After twelve armed Somali pirates hijacked the Iranian fishing vessel Azini—threatening to transform it into a mothership for launching further attacks across the Gulf of Aden—New Delhi deployed the guided-missile destroyer INS Kolkata alongside air surveillance and elite Marine Commandos. Executing a precision air-drop to regain control of the vessel, Indian naval forces overpowered the pirates and successfully rescued all twenty Iranian crew members without a single casualty. Earning official commendation and praise from Tehran, this daring rescue underscores India’s growing role as the primary net security provider and first responder across the Indian Ocean Region and the Horn of Africa. Alyson Le Grange brings you the full breakdown of this high-stakes maritime operation.
