Esmaeil Baghaei, portavoz del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Irán, aseguró que los constantes cambios de posición y las contradicciones de Estados Unidos dificultan las negociaciones. Baghaei reiteró que Teherán mantiene la comunicación con Washington, pero afirmó que están preparados para responder a cualquier ataque.“El problema de negociar con esta Administración es que tienes que hacer frente a cambios constantes de posición, cambios de metas, declaraciones diferentes y comentarios contradictorios por parte de diferentes autoridades. Esto hace que todo el proceso sea engorroso, inestable e incierto. Pero mantenemos el intercambio de comunicaciones. La principal cuestión es que los estadounidenses deben entender que han de reconocer los derechos de Irán. No buscamos concesiones, por cierto. Simplemente, deben poner fin a sus sanciones y aprender a no dirigirse a los iraníes como han hecho hasta ahora. Estamos decididos a defender nuestra seguridad nacional y nuestros intereses nacionales. Hemos demostrado que no vamos a quedarnos mirando cómo violan el alto el fuego y cómo violan nuestra soberanía y seguridad nacional.
