Korrespondent warnt: Bürgerkrieg in Äthiopien droht erneut zu eskalieren
Vier Jahre ist es her, dass im Norden Äthiopiens die Kämpfe des letzten Krieges zu Ende gegangen sind. Zentrum des Konfliktes im ostafrikanischen Land war schon damals die Region Tigray an der Grenze zu Eritrea - und die Frage, wer sie kontrolliert. Hunderttausende Menschen fielen dem Konflikt zum Opfer. Ende 2022 wurde ein Waffenstillstand beschlossen.Nun sind in der Region Tigray erneut Kämpfe ausgebrochen. Ein Regierungsberater spricht davon, dass die Volksbefreiungsfront Tigrays, kurz TPFL, eine neue Großoffensive gestartet habe.
Die TPFL wiederum spricht von einem Angriff der Zentralregierung auf Tigray. Schusswechsel gibt es gleich an mehreren Fronten.
„Die Lage ist äußerst ernst, um nicht zu sagen dramatisch“, sagt ARD-Korrespondent Georg Restle in Nairobi. „Im Augenblick stehen die Zeichen nicht für Frieden und Vermittlung. Im Augenblick droht hier ein Bürgerkrieg zu eskalieren. Und das macht vielen Menschen in der Region große Sorgen.“
