Situé au carrefour entre l'Afrique du Nord et l'Europe, à une vingtaine de kilomètres seulement des côtes espagnoles, Tanger a longtemps été l’objet de discordes entre les puissances coloniales : la France, l'Espagne, le Portugal et la Grande-Bretagne. Lorsque la ville marocaine devient une capitale internationale, elle attire nombre d’écrivains et d'artistes, parmi lesquels Mick Jagger, Henri Matisse, Tennessee Williams, William S. Burroughs ou Jane et Paul Bowles. L’écrivain Rachid Taferssiti, le marchand d’art Abdelmajid Raïs el-Fenni, le dramaturge Zoubeir Ben Bouchta et l’actrice Soumaya Akaaboune livrent leur vision de cette cité nimbée de légendes.
