Bangladesh News LIVE: Indian PM Modi to Skip Bangladesh's Tarique Rahman's Oath Ceremony | Firstpost

Bangladesh is preparing for a major political transition as Tarique Rahman is set to take oath as Prime Minister on February 17, according to reports. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to attend the ceremony, reportedly along with leaders from at least 12 countries, including Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Malaysia, and Brunei. PM Modi will skip the event due to prior commitments, including the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi (Feb 16โ€“20) and scheduled talks with French President Emmanuel Macron on February 17. Meanwhile, Rahmanโ€™s party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has signalled a desire to reset ties with India. On Hasinaโ€™s possible extradition from India, BNP leaders stated that the matter would depend on legal processes. Hasina had fled to India following the deadly August 2024 uprising.
