Il 3 gennaio 2026, in un'operazione militare statunitense denominata "Absolute Resolve", le forze speciali USA hanno condotto raid a Caracas, catturando il presidente venezuelano Nicolás Maduro e sua moglie Cilia Flores. I due sono stati trasferiti a New York per affrontare accuse federali di narco-terrorismo, traffico di cocaina e possesso illegale di armi. Questo evento drammatico riecheggia le preoccupazioni espresse anni fa da Hugo Chávez, mentore di Maduro. In un'intervista del 2009 con la giornalista colombiana Victoria Dávila, Chávez spiegava le tensioni con Washington proprio in relazione alle risorse petrolifere: "Qui in Venezuela abbiamo la più grande riserva di petrolio del mondo, sufficiente per oltre 100 anni. Questa è la causa principale dell'ostilità americana verso di noi". Chávez denunciava il desiderio degli Stati Uniti di controllare quelle immense riserve energetiche, prevedendo possibili interventi per motivi geopolitici. Oggi, quel vecchio video riemerge mostrando come le sue parole sembrino aver anticipato gli sviluppi attuali, con il petrolio venezuelano al centro di un conflitto che ha segnato una svolta storica per il Paese.
