Join me as I explore Burabay, a stunning mountain resort town often hailed as the "Switzerland of Kazakhstan." Located roughly two and a half to three hours outside of Astana, this alpine paradise is packed with dramatic peaks, pristine lakes, and rich local culture.
I kicked off my travels in Burabay at the gorgeous Wyndham Garden Resort, a premier lakefront property featuring a massive swimming pool, a relaxing Turkish hammam, and top-tier amenities right on the water, with a private beach. But instead of staying tucked away in luxury, I hit the pavement to mix with the locals and experience the true heartbeat of the town.
Strolling through the downtown Burabay Mall, I checked out local coffee shops and restaurants, diving deep into the community. I tracked down incredible street food, hunted for a classic barbershop to get a fresh shave, and popped into a traditional local medicinal shop stocked with time-tested remedies for everything from insomnia and manpower boosters to natural cures for the flu and colds.
The adventure continued as I chatted with the local barista at Coffee Boom and wrapped up my walk by raiding a local bakery, scoring a massive batch of savory puff pastry croissants stuffed with beef, chicken, and onions to share with all my fellow travel blogger friends on the tour group.
