Changing the System: Asking Better Questions | Poonperm Vardhanabindu | TEDxChiangMai
Changing the System: Asking Better Questions for Real Climate Action - Poonperm explains why today’s climate tools — carbon taxes, sustainability-linked bonds, energy-efficiency incentives — often fail to transform systems. They are powerful but constrained by old assumptions and incentives. He argues for reframing: instead of “Is this green?” we should ask “Who does this serve?” and “Does this change the system?” Key message: Climate action accelerates when we change the questions — not just the tools. Poonperm (Ai) Vardhanabindu has over a decade of experience in climate change and sustainable development, advising corporations and shaping national policies. His expertise includes GHG consulting, policy formulation, Sustainable Finance, and carbon pricing. He led the verification of the first International Transfer Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs) under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and contributed to designing Thailand’s carbon pricing for its carbon tax. His work also covers carbon storage accounting, Thailand’s first national guideline for Organizational Carbon Footprint, GHG management frameworks, and NDC analysis for UNESCAP member states. He integrates financial and environmental strategies to achieve economic and sustainable goals. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
