It’s the Swedish brand's bread-and-butter family SUV, but with the BMW X3, Mercedes GLC, and Audi Q5 all getting recent updates, can this refreshed Volvo still compete? Let’s take a closer look…
At first glance, you’d be forgiven for thinking not much has changed. Volvo has stuck to the "if it ain't broke" philosophy when it comes to the exterior design. There’s a new grille and some darker tinting on the taillights, but the lights and bumpers remain largely the same. However, you can now spice things up with new paint colours (like Mulberry Red), fresh wheel designs, and optional black exterior trim for a stealthier look. Crucially, there’s no cheap-looking plastic cladding here - it’s premium through and through.
Step inside and it’s a masterclass in refinement. It isn't trying too hard to be futuristic; instead, you get beautiful wood trim across the dash and centre console. It’s packed with luxury, too, featuring heated, cooled, and even massaging seats. Material quality is top-notch throughout, from the dash to the door bins.
The big news is the infotainment. The central screen is now larger, sharper, and much quicker to respond than the old system. It’s a massive improvement!
If you’re looking for a diesel, you’re out of luck - only petrol and hybrid engines are on offer. What’s more, every XC60 now comes with All-Wheel Drive and an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard. In terms of the engine line-up:
* The Entry Level: A 2.0-litre turbo petrol with 250hp.
* The Hybrid: Uses the same engine paired with an electric motor for 350hp.
* The Range Topper: Once again, a hybrid, but this time producing 455hp.
Prices for the new XC60 start from around £49,000, rising to over £71,000 for the top-spec Ultra Black Edition. Should you buy it, consider it, or avoid it altogether? You’ll have to watch the full video to find out!
