Iran’s link to RAF Fairford airbase incident remains 'speculation': Former US diplomat
Adam Ereli, a former deputy spokesman for the US State Department and a former Ambassador to Bahrain, says Iran is capable of a major incident like the one at the UK’s Fairford airbase as Tehran has made threats before against any site used by the US military.“Iran has the capability of doing this … they have, clearly, the motivation. They’ve been attacking US and allied military facilities in the region for some time and have been expanding the scope of those attacks in terms of geography and strategic relevance for some time,” he said.
“So it doesn’t require a huge stretch of the imagination to write a scenario where Iran is a big player in this [the Fairford incident].”
However, Ereli said commentary on the incident at this stage was “speculation”.
Tehran denies any link to the incident.
