Penisin sertleşmesini sağlayan iki korpus kavernozum, kanla dolarak hacim kazanır. İdrar yolunun çevresindeki korpus spongiosum ise sertleşme sırasında üretranın tamamen sıkışmasını engelleyen daha süngerimsi bir yapıdır.
Ancak penis yalnızca damarlardan oluşmaz. Sertleşmenin sağlıklı gerçekleşebilmesi için düz kasların gevşemesi, kolajen ve elastik liflerin uygun yapıda olması ve kanla dolan sinüzoidal boşlukların genişleyebilmesi gerekir.
Videoda ayrıca penis sert değilken ve sertleşmiş durumdayken dokuların yaklaşık hacimsel dağılımlarını karşılaştırıyorum.
