Астрономы зафиксировали два одинаковых световых импульса от звезды примерно в 100 световых годах от Земли, в созвездии Большой Медведицы. Импульсы были идеально синхронизированы и шли с интервалом ровно 4,4 секунды: звезда ярко вспыхнула, затем потускнела и через несколько секунд снова вспыхнула. Учёный NASA Ричард Стэнтон потратил более 1500 часов, проверяя все возможные объяснения. Он сравнивал данные с ударами молний, отражениями от самолётов, метеорами и даже сбоями программного обеспечения. Но ничего не совпало. Он не смог исключить вероятность того, что сигнал мог быть искусственным. И это не первый подобный случай. В 2019 году астрономы обнаружили похожий двойной импульс от другой звезды, расположенной примерно в пятидесяти световых годах от нас.
