Nel film un generale americano fuori di senno, Jack D. Ripper, ordina ai bombardieri B-52 di colpire l’Unione Sovietica. Intanto, nella War Room del Pentagono, politici e militari assistono impotenti a un meccanismo apocalittico che nessuno è più in grado di fermare. Sessant’anni dopo, il linguaggio della guerra preventiva è tornato nei palazzi del potere. Alla fine del 2025 l’ammiraglio Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, presidente del Comitato militare della NATO, ha evocato sul Financial Times la possibilità di un “attacco preventivo” contro la Russia nel quadro della guerra ibrida. Mosca ha bollato quelle parole come un passo “estremamente irresponsabile”.
Dalla satira alla cronaca
Il giudizio di Giorgio Bianchi parte proprio da lì: “Quello è stato forse uno dei più grandi film di satira mai girati, una satira graffiante contro la guerra. Il generale Ripper, lo Squartatore, lancia l’attacco dei B-52 contro la Russia sulla base di una fake news: sembra che i russi abbiano attaccato gli Stati Uniti, e lui risponde. Quella che all’epoca era satira, oggi è la realtà”. Il problema è che quelle maschere hanno smesso di stare sullo schermo: “Oggi siamo circondati di Ripper un po’ ovunque, siamo circondati di Dottor Stranamore. Solo che Kubrick irrideva queste figure, mentre oggi siedono nelle cancellerie, nelle stanze dei bottoni”.
I nomi, del resto, non mancano: “Pensate a Cavo Dragone: se non è un Ripper uno che dice che la NATO è pronta, non si sa con quale carburante, non si sa con quali armi. E pensate a Calenda: se non è un Dottor Stranamore, gli manca solo il braccio a scatto. Magari in privato ce l’ha anche lui, il braccio che parte”.
