Every Sunday, traders, breeders, collectors, performers, and animal enthusiasts gather in a maze of streets and alleyways behind the Rainbow Centre in Saddar, Karachi, Pakistan, to buy, sell, and display a huge variety of animals.
In this video, I go undercover inside this black market to see what is really happening behind the scenes.

What starts as a typical pet market quickly turns into something much stranger. Along the way I encounter exotic birds, pedigree dogs, animal performances, monkey handlers, snake charmers, cockfighting enthusiasts, and sellers offering animals under conditions that many viewers may find very dubious.
Locals also share stories about stolen pets, underground animal trading networks, and the kinds of exotic animals that can allegedly be sourced through private connections. While not everything can be independently verified, these conversations offer a fascinating glimpse into a side of Karachi that most visitors never see.
Although many people simply come here to buy pets, feed, cages, and supplies, others view parts of the market as operating in a legal grey area. Combined with ongoing concerns about animal welfare, allegations of stolen pets, underground trading, and the sale of protected species, the market has earned a reputation as one of Karachi's most controversial weekend attractions.
