The ongoing war involving Iran is reshaping global trade routes as the vital Strait of Hormuz remains blocked, forcing shipping companies to find alternative paths for transporting goods.Cargo that once moved through key maritime routes in the Gulf is now being rerouted overland through Syria and Jordan. Truck drivers and freight operators say border crossings are busier than they have been in years.
A new emergency agreement between Syria and Jordan has allowed freight crossings to operate 24 hours a day, helping move goods from ports such as Port of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia and Port of Aqaba in Jordan.
From there, shipments travel across the region toward Lebanon, Türkiye, and even into European markets.
Truck drivers say border queues that once lasted hours are now stretching into days as companies race to keep supply chains moving amid the disruption.
