Raz Segal, historiador israelí, pierde oferta de trabajo académico tras acusar a Israel de genocidio

Hablamos con el académico judío Raz Segal, de nacionalidad israelí-estadounidense, acerca de la decisión de la Universidad de Minnesota de rescindir una oferta de trabajo que le había hecho, por declaraciones realizadas por Segal al principio de la actual guerra contra Gaza, en las que caracterizaba al ataque israelí como un “genocidio de manual”. Segal ya había aceptado la convocatoria a dirigir el Centro de Estudios sobre el Holocausto y el Genocidio de dicha universidad, pero la institución educativa revocó su oferta tras la renuncia de dos miembros de la junta directiva en oposición a la designación de Segal y de la campaña de desprestigio emprendida por la organización pro-israelí Consejo de Relaciones Comunitarias Judías de Minnesota y las Dakotas (JCRC, por su sigla en inglés). “Fui atacado por mi identidad como judío que se niega a reducir la identidad judía al sionismo”, sostiene Segal, quien además considera que la oposición impulsada por el JCRC a su nombramiento es una “campaña de odio basada en mentiras y distorsiones” y una “cruda intervención política”. Segal afirma que “el proceso de contratación había sido totalmente legítimo” y añade que la rescisión de esta oferta laboral “significa el fin de la idea de libertad de investigación, académica y de enseñanza; y todo al servicio, por supuesto, de un Estado extremadamente violento.
