Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow speaks exclusively to Firstpost about India’s role in BRICS, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s diplomacy and the New Delhi Declaration.Sihasak says India is in a position to exercise considerable influence among countries with different views and gives New Delhi credit for helping shape consensus within the grouping. He specifically highlights Jaishankar’s role and says the New Delhi Declaration was “craftily, skillfully crafted”, even as BRICS dealt with difficult issues including the Middle East.
The Thai Deputy Prime Minister also discusses the rise of the Global South, saying BRICS represents its voice and that countries are “not willing to take the backseat anymore.” He speaks about the shifting world order, the move towards a more multipolar system and the need to reform institutions underpinning the international order.
