Nach Informationen von Sky News will auch der englische Fußballverband Infantino die Unterstützung für seine geplante Wiederwahl entziehen. Der walisische Verband hatte diesen Schritt bereits öffentlich angekündigt. Hintergrund sind die inzwischen zurückgezogenen Pläne, Teile der Weltmeisterschaft und kommerzielle Rechte an Investoren zu verkaufen. Kritiker werfen Infantino mangelnde Transparenz und schlechte Verbandsführung vor. Alina Quass berichtet aus Washington über einen Bericht der New York Post. Demnach soll ein Gespräch zwischen Infantino und Marco Rubio geplant gewesen sein. Offiziell sollte es um die Soft Power des Fußballs in Amerika gehen. Nach Angaben der Zeitung sei es jedoch vor allem um Unterstützung für Infantinos Wiederwahl gegangen. Im Zusammenhang mit den gescheiterten Investorenplänen fällt auch der Name Jared Kushner. Außerdem wird auf Äußerungen von Donald Trump in Camp David verwiesen. Trump erklärte, er habe mit Infantino nicht über die Investitionspläne gesprochen. Laut Transkript wollen demokratische Abgeordnete das Verhältnis zwischen Trump und Infantino genauer untersuchen.
