US, Israel agree to 2-week Iran ceasefire; Iran claims victory
President Donald Trump said he’d agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran on Tuesday on the condition that Iran agree to reopen the critical Strait of Hormuz. Israel has also agreed to the ceasefire, a White House official said.Iran’s Supreme National Security Council released a statement outlining that Iran’s 10-point plan “emphasizes fundamental matters” like the “regulated passage through the Strait of Hormuz under the coordination of the Armed Forces of Iran.” This would grant Iran a “unique economic and geopolitical standing,” the statement said. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Aragachi said that during the two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz “will be possible via coordination with Iran’s Armed Forces and with due consideration of technical limitations.”
