KAMPF GEGEN DIE FLAMMEN: Waldbrand außer Kontrolle – Feuerwehr ringt um Hürtgenwald

Ein schwerer Waldbrand hält die Einsatzkräfte im nordrhein-westfälischen Hürtgenwald in Atem. Rund 1.800 Menschen mussten den Ortsteil Gey verlassen, nachdem sich die Flammen aufgrund von Hitze, Trockenheit und Wind rasch ausbreiteten. Feuerwehr, Polizei, Landwirte und weitere Einsatzkräfte kämpfen gegen das Feuer, das zeitweise außer Kontrolle geriet. Auch Löschhubschrauber und Spezialfahrzeuge sind im Einsatz. WELT-Reporterin Greta Wagner berichtet aus der Nähe des Einsatzgebiets über die aktuelle Lage und die Herausforderungen vor Ort.

Warum mussten Menschen in Hürtgenwald ihre Häuser verlassen?
Der Waldbrand breitete sich aufgrund von Trockenheit, Wind und hohen Temperaturen in Richtung des Ortsteils Gey aus. Aus Sicherheitsgründen ordneten die Behörden die Evakuierung von rund 1.800 Bewohnern an.

Warum ist der Einsatz so schwierig?
Einsatzkräfte kämpfen gegen Glutnester, Wind und schwer zugängliches Gelände. Dadurch besteht die Gefahr, dass sich das Feuer immer wieder neu entfacht.

Welche Kräfte sind im Einsatz?
Feuerwehr, Polizei, Landwirte sowie Spezialfahrzeuge und zeitweise auch ein Löschhubschrauber unterstützen die Brandbekämpfung.
