Merespons kabar tersebut, pihak istana memberikan bantahannya.
Bantahan ini disampaikan istana melalui Menteri Sekretaris Negara Prasetyo Hadi dalam keterangan pada Sabtu (13/9) malam.
Prasetyo mengatakan, sejauh ini pemerintah belum mengajukan nama calon Kapolri untuk menggantikan Sigit yang kabarnya akan dicopot.
Ia memastikan belum ada surpres yang dikirimkan Prabowo ke DPR RI.
Adapun sebelumnya, bantahan juga disampaikan oleh Wakil Ketua DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad saat dikonfirmasi pada Jumat (12/9).
Dasco menegaskan, DPR belum menerima surpres ataupun surat lainnya hingga Jumat malam.
Komisi III DPR yang jadi mitra kerja Polri juga belum mendapat informasi soal adanya surpres pergantian Kapolri.
Anggota Komisi III DPR RI, Nasir Djamil mengatakan, berdasarkan informasi yang diterimanya, Sigit tetap akan dipertahankan sebagai Kapolri hingga tahun ini.
Sebelumnya diberitakan, Presiden Prabowo telah mengirimkan surat ke DPR terkait pergantian Kapolri.
Kabar penggantian Kapolri ini mencuat setelah adanya dinamika yang terjadi sejak akhir Agustus ketika terjadi demo di sejumlah wilayah yang berujung ricuh serta menewaskan 10 orang.
Imbas peristiwa tersebut, muncul desakan untuk mengganti Listyo Sigit dari kursi Kapolri.
Kemudian muncul kabar bahwa ada dua nama perwira tinggi pengganti Listyo Sigit.
Keduanya berpangkat komjen, satu di antaranya baru naik pangkat bintang tiga.
