Tsunami ve deprem: Marmara, Ege ve Akdeniz ne kadar riskli?1999’da yaşanan 17 Ağustos Depremi Türkiye tarihinin en büyük felaketlerinden biriydi.
Deprem nedeniyle Marmara Denizi’nde oluşan heyelanlar sonucu bazı kıyılarda 3 metreye yaklaşan tsunami dalgaları görüldü.
Türkiye’de Pasifik’teki gibi 30 - 40 metrelik duvar gibi dalgalar oluşması mümkün değil.
Uzmanlar, Türkiye kıyılarında olası bir tsunaminin en fazla 5 - 6 metreye ulaşabileceğini söylüyor.
Ancak ayak bileği seviyesindeki 15 - 20 santimetrelik hareketli bir su kütlesi bile yetişkin bir insanı devirip sürükleyebilir.
Kandilli Rasathanesi’ne göre son 3 bin yılda, başta Marmara olmak üzere Karadeniz, Ege ve Akdeniz kıyılarında 90’dan fazla tsunami meydana geldi.
Marmara’da beklenen büyük depremde de benzer bir risk söz konusu.
