Als „Graue Wölfe“ werden Anhänger:innen der rechtsextremistischen „Ülkücü-Bewegung“ bezeichnet. In Deutschland werden die „Grauen Wölfe“ vom Verfassungsschutz beobachtet. Hierzulande gibt es laut Verfassungsschutz mehr als 12.000 Anhänger:innen der Bewegung.Die „Ülkücü“-Ideologie ist nationalistisch, antisemitisch, rassistisch und rechtsextremistisch. Nach der Ideologie wird das Türkentum als übergeordnete Nationalität und Kultur angesehen. Minderheiten wie zum Beispiel Kurden, Juden, Armenier oder Griechen werden abgewertet.
Das Zeigen des „Wolfsgrußes“ kann laut Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz als Bekenntnis zur „Ülkücü“-Ideologie gewertet werden. Der Gruß werde aber auch zur Provokation und nicht nur von Rechtsextremisten genutzt.
Vor allem bei Fußball-Spielen ist das Zeichen auch unter Fans immer wieder zu sehen. „Die ,Grauen Wölfe‘ nutzen den Fußball für die Rekrutierung neuer Anhänger.
