Sikap Trump ini dipuji Perdana Menteri (PM) Israel Benjamin Netanyahu.
Beberapa negara sekutu Washington, termasuk Prancis, Inggris, Kanada, dan Australia, telah resmi mengakui Negara Palestina dalam sidang Majelis Umum PBB pekan lalu.
"Beberapa negara telah dengan bodohnya mengakui Negara Palestina. Beberapa teman, sekutu, dan orang-orang baik Eropa kita," kata Trump dalam konferensi pers bersama PM Netanyahu di Gedung Putih pada hari Senin (29/9/2025).
"Tetapi mereka sebenarnya, saya pikir, melakukan itu karena mereka sangat lelah dengan apa yang telah terjadi selama beberapa dekade," imbuh dia, seperti dikutip dari Russia Today, Selasa (30/9/2025).
Pada hari Senin, Trump meluncurkan proposal 20 poin untuk mengakhiri perang Israel di Gaza.
Ke-20 poin itu mencakup pelucutan senjata Hamas, pembebasan sandera Israel yang tersisa dengan imbalan pembebasan tahanan Palestina, dan pembentukan pemerintahan transisi di Gaza.
Netanyahu berterima kasih kepada Trump karena mengambil posisi tegas bahwa Otoritas Palestina tidak dapat memiliki peran apa pun di Gaza.
Dia memperingatkan, "Israel akan menyelesaikan tugasnya jika Hamas menolak kesepakatan tersebut."
Negara-negara Eropa berpendapat bahwa mengakui Negara Palestina menegaskan solusi dua negara dan dapat membantu memajukan proses perdamaian di Gaza, di mana lebih dari 66.000 warga Palestina telah terbunuh sejak Oktober 2023 dan hampir semua lainnya mengungsi.
Namun, Netanyahu berpendapat bahwa langkah mengakui Negara Palestina akan mendorong Hamas untuk melakukan lebih banyak serangan terhadap warga sipil Israel.
Pemerintah Inggris menyatakan pekan lalu bahwa Hamas tidak akan memiliki peran apa pun dalam masa depan Palestina, sementara Presiden Prancis Emmanuel Macron menyatakan bahwa pengakuan Negara Palestina merupakan kekalahan bagi Hamas dan bagi semua pihak yang menyebarkan kebencian anti-Yahudi.
