Dalle grandi migrazioni successive all'unità d'Italia, alle numerose partenze nel secondo dopoguerra, generazioni di italiani hanno trovato le sedi migliori al di fuori del nostro Paese, sostenendone in modo determinante la ripresa e lo sviluppo, anche con le consistenti rimesse finanziarie del secolo scorso.
