Rupanya Candi Preah Vihear dan Ta Muen Thom ini memicu bentrokan mematikan hingga memaksa kedua negara mengerahkan jet tempur dan ranjau darat.
Memang konflik ini tak hanya mempersoalkan sengketa wilayah.
Namun, juga sentimen nasionalisme dan klaim atas warisan budaya.
Konflik yang berlangsung lebih dari satu dekade itu, kini mencapai titik yang paling memanas sejak 2011.
Benturan konflik tersebut mulai mencuat kembali pada 23 Juli 2025 yang lalu.
Akibat insiden itu, tentara Thailand mengalami luka parah imbas ledakan ranjau di distrik Nam Yuen, Ubon Ratchathani.
Sehari setelahnya, bentrokan terjadi dekat Candi Ta Muen Thom di Provinsi Surin sekitar 200 meter dari pos militer Thailand.
Tak berlangsung lama, pasukan Kamboja mendekati kawat berduri perbatasan menggunakan roket dan drone pengintai.
Merespons hal itu, Menteri Pertahanan Thailand mengklaim hal itu sebagai provokasi Kamboja.
Lantas, Thailand meluncurkan serangan balasan dengan mengerahkan enam jet tempur F‑16 yang menargetkan fasilitas militer Kamboja.
