A massive anti-government protest erupted in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, as thousands of young people took to the streets. The demonstrations were sparked by corruption allegations against the KP Sharma Oli government and the recent ban on 26 social media platforms. Protesters vandalised the parliament gate, prompting police to fire dozens of rounds. Tear gas and water cannons were also deployed to disperse the crowd. Several people were injured, and casualties were feared. Authorities imposed a curfew in parts of the capital as tensions remained high. Meanwhile, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented the country at the BRICS Leaders’ Summit. The meeting, hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, focused on tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump and efforts to find a united response.
