Japan Floods | Torrential Rains Trigger Level 5 Warning, 2,700 Evacuated In Central Japan
Japan Floods: Central Japan is battling severe flooding after torrential rains caused rivers to rise rapidly, triggering the country’s highest Level 5 flood warning in some areas.Around 2,700 people have been forced to evacuate to shelters, while four people have reportedly been injured. Nagoya recorded 104.5 millimetres of rain in just one hour, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
Floodwaters have disrupted roads, railway tracks, subway services and streets, while authorities are urging residents in vulnerable areas to move to higher ground and stay away from underground spaces.
Several Asian Games venues in Nagoya have also reportedly been affected by water leaks ahead of the September 19 opening.
Weather officials are warning of further flooding and landslides as heavy rain continues across central Japan.
