What If Not Choosing Yourself Is the Real Risk? | Shilpa Jaiswal | TEDxARSD

We grow up believing that choosing ourselves is risky. Choosing passion over stability, alignment over approval, or even listening to our own body — all of it feels like a gamble in a world that rewards safety.
In this talk, I want to question that belief.
Through my own journey — from choosing stage over a conventional job after college, to understanding how dance shaped my confidence, to struggling with my relationship with my body, and eventually finding healing through yoga and movement — I’ve realised something uncomfortable.
The biggest risk wasn’t leaving the safe path.
The biggest risk was the moments I ignored myself.
This talk explores what happens when we repeatedly silence what moves us — creatively, professionally, and emotionally. And it invites the audience to imagine a different world: one where choosing yourself isn’t seen as reckless, but necessary.
