A powerful exploration of how spirituality can guide healing, understanding, and reconciliation in a post-colonial world. Dr. Frank Deer is Kanienkeha'ka from Kahnawake and a Professor in the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Education. Before entering academia, he taught in Northern Manitoba and Winnipeg's inner city. His research has since focused on Indigenous education, Indigenous language education, identity, citizenship, philosophy of education, and religious and spiritual orientations in schools.
Deer has served the University of Manitoba in several senior roles, including Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Education, Associate Dean of Indigenous Education and Acting Executive Lead of Indigenous Achievement. He was elected to the Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars in 2019. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
