Elon Musk’s criticism of "big, beautiful" budget bill draws strong reactions from GOP lawmakers

Elon Musk on Tuesday weighed in on the "big, beautiful bill" the Trump administration and congressional Republicans are working to advance, criticizing it as a "disgusting abomination" due to its projected effect on budget deficits. LiveNOW’s Andrew Craft is speaking with congressional correspondent for the Deseret News, Cami Mondeaux and Fox News Radio’s Ryan Schmelz.

Musk, who has been openly critical of the proposed reconciliation bill, said Tuesday afternoon that he "just can't stand it anymore."

"This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination," Musk added in a Tuesday afternoon post on X. "Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it."

“No matter what Elon Musk or anybody else says — and I don’t want to diminish him because I don’t think that’s fair — it’s still going to be second fiddle to President Trump,” said Republican West Virginia Sen. Shelley Moore Capito.

GOP Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul has also signaled he likely will not vote in favor of the bill in its current form, citing a debt ceiling increase that is a red line for him.

White House budget director Russ Vought also spoke to reporters today. He said more rescission packages and other efforts to cut spending could follow if current efforts are successful. “We are certainly willing and able to send up additional packages if the congressional will is there,” Vought said.
