Red Terror during Lenin's Leadership
The Red Terror was a campaign of political persecution and murders carried out in Soviet Russia by the Bolsheviks, primarily through the Cheka, the party's secret police. It formally began in early September 1918 and continued until 1922. The Red Terror, which arose in response to assassination attempts on Vladimir Lenin as well as the successful assassinations of Petrograd Cheka leader Moisei Uritsky and party editor V. Volodarsky in alleged retaliation for Bolshevik mass repressions, was modeled after the French Revolution's Reign of Terror and sought to eliminate political dissent, opposition, and any other threats to Bolshevik power.
Early Life and Revolutionary Activities
The early life of Joseph Stalin spans the time from his birth on December 18, 1878, to the October Revolution on November 7, 1917. Ioseb Jughashvili was born in Gori, Georgia, to a cobbler and a housemaid. He grew up in the city and went to school there before transferring to Tiflis to attend the Tiflis Seminary. While attending the seminary, he adopted Marxism and became a passionate disciple of Vladimir Lenin, eventually leaving to become a revolutionary. After being recognized by the Russian secret police for his activities, he became a full-time revolutionary and engaged in a variety of crimes such as robbery, gangsterism, and arson. He became one of the Bolsheviks' most important operators in the Caucasus, forming paramilitaries, spreading propaganda, and obtaining funds through bank robberies, kidnappings, and extortion. Stalin was caught and deported to Siberia several times, although he frequently escaped. He became one of Lenin's closest colleagues, which helped him rise to prominence following the Russian Revolution. Stalin was finally deported to Siberia in 1913 and remained there until the Russian Empire was overthrown in the February Revolution of 1917. Receive SMS online on sms24.me
