The Story of Lizzie Borden And How She Got Away With Murder

On August 4, 1892, Andrew and Abby Borden were brutally murdered inside their home in Fall River, Massachusetts. There were no eyewitnesses, no clear murder weapon, and no obvious way for a stranger to enter the locked house, kill two people, and escape unnoticed.

This video explores the infamous Lizzie Borden case, from the family’s bitter disputes over money and property to the suspicious timeline of the murders. Lizzie’s changing statements, a missing note, an alleged attempt to buy poison, and a dress burned after the killings all raised questions investigators struggled to answer. But the trial was about more than evidence. In an era when many Americans could barely imagine a respectable upper-class woman committing such violence, Lizzie’s defense challenged the prosecution’s case, and crucial testimony was excluded.

On June 20, 1893, the jury acquitted her. She inherited her father’s fortune and moved into the grand home she had always wanted. Yet suspicion followed her for the rest of her life.
Did Lizzie Borden get away with murder, or was she wrongly accused of a crime that remains unsolved?
