«درخت گلابی»، یکی از عمیق ترین عاشقانه های سینمای ایران است.در این فیلم که یکی از مهم‌ترین فیلم‌های داریوش مهرجویی به شمار می‌آید، گلشیفته فراهانی بازیگر توانمند کنونی سینمای جهان، در سنین نوجوانی کشف می‌شود . شخصیت او با ورودش در میانهٔ فیلم جان تازه‌ای به روایت می‌دهد و عشق خاموش نویسنده را ملموس می‌کند. این فیلم دعوتی است به مرور خاطرات دوران نوجوانی.
درخت گلابی در عین حال از جمله فیلم‌هایی است که در جمهوری اسلامی از گزند تیغ سانسور در امان نمانده است و تلاش داریوش مهرجویی در آن سال‌ها برای حل مسئله حجاب زن و همینطور مسئله احساس و رابطه فیزیکی بین دو شخصیت نوجوان فیلم از جمله خلاقیت‌های بصری فیلم است.
فیلم به زندگی نویسنده‌ای برمی‌گردد که گذشتهٔ خودش را مرور می‌کند و با یادآوری عشقی قدیمی، میان واقعیت و خیال در رفت‌وآمد است.
«درخت گلابی» در ظاهر قصه‌ای ساده دارد، اما در عمق خود تصویری از انسان سرگشته‌ای ارائه می‌دهد که در جست‌وجوی معناست.
