The Deadly Trap That May Have Caught This Learjet
A Learjet 60 carrying nine people went down in Greenacres, Florida, after the crew reported icing and turbulence at 35,000 feet, then radioed a mayday and an overspeed condition. The NTSB now says there is some indication the jet was breaking up before impact. Former F-15E combat pilot and Thunderbirds pilot Max Afterburner breaks down the verified timeline, the air traffic control calls, and what investigators know so far.In this video, Max explains Mach tuck, the high-speed aerodynamic effect that can pitch a jet’s nose down as it nears the speed of sound, and how it could fit into this crash. The NTSB has not determined a cause and has not said Mach tuck played a role. Max also covers the Learjet 60’s Mach 0.81 limit, coffin corner, icing at minus 47 degrees Celsius, the search for the cockpit voice recorder, and why weather is a major focus of the investigation.
