How Akshata Transitioned Into Product Management After 17 Years in Tech | IPL Alumni Story

After 17+ years in tech, managing infrastructure, leading automation teams, and driving operational excellence, for Akshata, it was time for reinvention. Her curiosity for solving meaningful problems beyond process-level challenges drew her toward Product Management at Walmart. But she wanted more structured learning, mentorship, and community to truly thrive in this space.
That’s when she discovered the Executive MBA in Product Leadership at the Institute of Product Leadership.

Through the program, Akshata honed her skills in defining OKRs, framing effective problem statements, and collaborating on real-world projects with a diverse cohort of peers. More than the tools and frameworks, she found immense value in shared perspectives and mentorship, elements she believes are crucial for any career transitioner.
Her advice to aspiring PMs?
🔹 Find a mentor who can guide you.
🔹 Learn to define strong problem statements.
🔹 Don’t fear failure, reinvent and pivot when needed.

Akshata now leads product initiatives in the healthcare analytics space at Walmart, continuing to bring purpose, clarity, and leadership to every challenge she solves.
