Baba Bageshwar and other saints, mahants, and sadhus and sanyasis from across the country, by reciting the Gita in Kolkata and gathering a crowd of five lakh people, demonstrated that the Hindus of Bengal are as Sanatani as the Hindus of Bihar or Uttar Pradesh. Will the Hindus of Bengal reap political dividends from this event for the BJP? If it were any other time, it would have been doubtful. But the Babri Masjid incident in Bengal has laid the groundwork for this. Mamata Banerjee is facing losses from both sides. For the first time in Bengal, it seems that Hindus are uniting and the Muslim vote bank is fragmenting.
