JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - #SaveRajaAmpat menjadi trending di media sosial usai aktivis Greenpeace Indonesia diamankan di acara Indonesia Critical Minerals Conference & Expo di sebuah Hotel mewah Jakarta.Aktivis yang berteriak “Save Raja Ampat, Papua bukan tanah kosong” memantik warganet untuk menyerukan pemerintah agar menghentikan aktivitas tambang nikel di Raja Ampat.
Raja Ampat yang telah ditetapkan sebagai Global Geopark oleh Unesco, menjadi salah satu ikon pariwisata Indonesia di mancanegara. Dengan adanya tambang nikel di Raja Ampat, Greenpeace memaparkan sejumlah dampak yang ditimbulkan salah satunya dapat memicu kerusakan perairan Raja Ampat.
Ada lima perusahaan tambang nikel yang beroperasi di berbagai pulau Raja Ampat, salah satunya adalah PT Gag Nikel yang memiliki izin usaha tambang sejak 2017 di pulau Gag.
Pemerintah resmi mencabut izin usaha 4 perusahaan tambang di Raja Ampat kecuali PT Gag Nikel.
Namun berdasarkan aturannya, Pulau Gag yang termasuk pulau kecil tidak boleh digunakan untuk aktivitas pertambangan.
