Fresh off winning his first Kia NBA MVP award, Gilgeous-Alexander carries himself in a manner where he lets the basketball do the talking.“Mentality, I tell myself every night I’m the best player on the floor. I want everyone in the arena to know that and feel that … you have to find a balance between respect and not being scared,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.
“Pass The Rock” covers the best around the league’s basketball upbringing, and for Gilgeous-Alexander, that wasn’t always easy. After getting cut from his ninth-grade basketball team, Gilgeous-Alexander used that as fuel to motivate him to become one of the league’s best.
“I wasn’t as good at basketball as I thought I was. I knew I wanted to get to a high level and was going to do whatever it took,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.
He also reflects on his rookie season and the offseason trade that took him from the LA Clippers to the Thunder, and embracing Oklahoma City every step of the way.
“It’s one of the better things to happen in my career, I have so much fun playing basketball in this organization. It’s a group full of brothers and it makes things easier on the court,” Gilgeous-Alexander said.
