Während des Bürgerkrieges waren viele Syrer:innen aus ihrer Heimat nach Europa geflohen. Auch über das Mittelmeer. Derzeit kommen relativ wenige Flüchtlinge über diesen gefährlichen Weg. Doch es gibt eine Ausnahme: Offenbar entwickelt sich eine neue Fluchtroute von Libyen aus mit dem Ziel Kreta. Vom Osten Libyens aus ist es die nächstgelegene größere europäische Insel. Sie wird nun zunehmend von Migrant:innen aus Afrika angesteuert. Dies führt dazu, dass Griechenland nun vorübergehend keine Asylanträge mehr annehmen will von Menschen, die von Libyen aus kommen.
