✝️ La Vendée: una de las mayores masacres de la historia
Para entender la tragedia de La Vendée, hay que comprender primero la naturaleza del monstruo que la perpetró. La masacre de La Vendée, esa espantosa carnicería industrial donde el Estado francés decidió exterminar a sus propios ciudadanos —mujeres, niños, ancianos y curas incluidos— por el imperdonable «crimen» de querer rezar a su Dios tradicional y no a la recién inventada diosa Razón, no fue, bajo ningún concepto, obra del liberalismo. Fue obra exclusiva del jacobinismo.Es cierto que los primeros compases de la Revolución francesa (allá por 1789) tuvieron elementos genuinamente liberales, fuertemente inspirados por pensadores como Montesquieu y por el éxito de la Revolución americana. Se buscaba una monarquía constitucional, la separación de poderes y la igualdad ante la ley. Sin embargo, ese proceso inicial fue rápida y violentamente secuestrado por una facción radical, totalitaria y visceralmente antiliberal: los jacobinos. Ellos instauraron un régimen donde la disidencia se pagaba con la guillotina y donde el Estado se arrogaba el derecho absoluto sobre la vida, la propiedad y la conciencia de sus súbditos.
Para entender por qué estalló este infierno, hay que mirar el mapa y el calendario. La Vendée era una región eminentemente rural en el oeste de Francia, de profunda raigambre católica y costumbres tradicionales. Sus habitantes, campesinos en su inmensa mayoría, no odiaban la Revolución en sus inicios, o no todos; de hecho, muchos vieron con buenos ojos la abolición de ciertos privilegios feudales. Sin embargo, la brecha se abrió y se convirtió en un abismo irreconciliable.
