Trump mengatakan dirinya kecewa karena upaya menengahi perdamaian Rusia-Ukraina terhambat oleh tindakan Putin.
“Putin mengecewakan saya. Ia membunuh banyak orang dan kehilangan lebih banyak prajurit daripada yang ia bunuh,” ujar Trump.
Menurut Trump, ia awalnya yakin bisa mudah menegosiasikan gencatan senjata, namun kenyataan berbeda.
Pernyataan ini disambut positif oleh pejabat Inggris yang berharap kunjungan Trump memperkuat isolasi internasional terhadap Putin.
Dalam kesempatan itu, Trump menegaskan Rusia adalah pihak penyerang.
Ia menilai langkah Putin terjadi karena hilangnya rasa hormat terhadap kepemimpinan AS.
Meski begitu, Trump menolak desakan Starmer untuk menambah sanksi langsung kepada Rusia.
Ia justru menyoroti impor minyak Rusia oleh negara Eropa dan India.
Menurut Trump, harga minyak yang turun akan memaksa Rusia menghentikan perang.
“Jika harga minyak turun, Putin tak punya pilihan selain mundur,” katanya.
Starmer menekankan pentingnya tekanan dari Washington agar Rusia mau bergerak.
