Life’s biggest questions present themselves to us whether we want them to or not. When we try to answer them, we tend to go wrong in three familiar ways: dogmatism, where certainty shuts inquiry down; moral relativism, where we seek our culture or religion’s answer and avoid the harder question of whether that answer is right; and nihilism, where the search for answers is abandoned altogether. Drawing on years of facilitating dialogue, Dr. Yarmel shows how a collaborative and rigorous search for truth through inquiry dialogue can help us make genuine progress on the questions that shape our lives.Dr. Aaron Yarmel is the Associate Director of the Center for Ethics and Human Values and an award-winning lecturer in the Department of Philosophy, and the Director of the Philosophy for Children Academy at Ohio State. His research focuses on philosophy for children, AI ethics, social change, and two-level utilitarianism.
