Direktur Dinas Rahasia Kimberly Cheatle bahkan didesak mundur karena dinilai gagal melindungi calon presiden.
Para kritikus menuduh Cheatle mengabaikan langkah-langkah keamanan pada kampanye Trump di Pennsylvania pada Sabtu (13/7/2024).
Cheatle dianggap terlalu fokus pada kebijakan kesetaraan hingga inklusi.
Contohnya memastikan Dinas Rahasia memiliki 30 persen anggota perempuan pada tahun 2030.
Padahal, peningkatan keamanan di tengah panasnya suhu politik jauh lebih penting.
Dikutip dari New York Post, Cheatle (53) telah bergabung dengan Dinas Rahasia selama 28 tahun.
Ia pernah meninggalkan pekerjaan tersebut untuk menjadi kepala keamanan global di PepsiCo.
Namun pada tahun 2022, Presiden Joe Biden menunjuk Cheatle menjadi Direktur Dinas Rahasia.
"Saya sangat percaya padanya dan saya berharap dapat bekerja sama dengannya," kata Biden.
Namun kinerja perempuan berusia 53 tahun itu dipertanyakan saat Trump ditembak.
Mantan Asisten Direktur FBI Chris Swecker menyebut, keamanan di lokasi kampanye sangat kacau dari awal hingga akhir.
Ia tak bisa membayangkan seandainya pelaku adalah penembak yang terlatih.
"Keamanan benar-benar kacau dari awal hingga akhir. Bayangkan jika penembaknya bukan anak kecil ini, melainkan sel yang terlatih? Musuh kita melihat kita dan berpikir kita bisa menghabisi Trump," kata Swecker.
