Nuclear. Defence. Steel. Aerospace. One Small Udaipur Company Sits Inside All of Them

Tempsens Instruments is an Udaipur-based industrial manufacturer working in some very demanding environments. Its contact probes can wear out under continuous heat and corrosion and may need replacement every 12 to 24 months. Its heating systems are used in nuclear applications, and its process furnaces can operate continuously at temperatures of up to 2,500°C.

In the 13th episode of SOIC's Unique Business Series, Ishmohit breaks down the business behind the Tempsens IPO: what the company actually makes, why these products are difficult to qualify, where repeat replacement demand comes from, what changed after the Marathon Heater amalgamation, what the offer document says about prior-period accounting reversals, the risks around working capital, and how to think about valuation.

Tempsens did roughly ₹445 crore of revenue in FY26. It is described as India's largest manufacturer of contact and non-contact temperature sensors by revenue, while holding only around 10.5% of the overall market. That tells you how fragmented this market still is, even for the largest player.

The idea is not to tell you whether to apply or avoid. It is to help you understand the business, the risks and the valuation framework so you can form your own view.

WHAT WE GET INTO

1. What Tempsens actually makes across temperature sensing, specialised cables and electrical heating.
2. Why contact probes in harsh industrial environments may need replacement every 12 to 24 months.
3. How Tempsens can be the largest Indian contact/non-contact temperature-sensor manufacturer by revenue while holding only ~10.5% overall market share.
4. Nuclear applications, process heating up to 2,500°C, and why qualification and certifications matter.
5. The backward integration into specialised cables, conductor alloys, calibration and manufacturing.
6. The Marathon Heater amalgamation, ₹106.13 crore of goodwill and ₹16.04 crore of prior-period sales reversals.
7. Working-capital and cash-conversion risks.
8. How Ishmohit looks at the IPO structure, valuation scenarios and the risks around them.

Bottom line: the engineering story and the accounting story are both in the same offer document, and you do not get to read only one of them.
