A partir del 26 de mayo se podrá visitar esta exposición que revisa cómo, mucho antes de la irrupción del Renacimiento, Italia marcó el ritmo de una profunda transformación artística cuyo eco encontró en los reinos hispanos uno de sus principales espacios de recepción.

En paralelo a la preparación de la muestra se ha llevado a cabo una intensa campaña de restauración de obras por parte del departamento de restauración del Museo del Prado, que cuenta con el patrocinio de la Fundación Iberdrola España como ‘miembro protector’ de su Programa de Restauraciones, que ha afectado a una docena de piezas. Entre ellas sobresale por importancia y trascendencia historiográfica la cuidada intervención de dos tablas con los apóstoles Simón y Mateo, procedentes del retablo mayor de Toledo, que ha permitido desvelar la pintura original de uno de los grandes maestros florentinos del Trecento: Gherardo Starnina.
